Missing American girl held for identity theft; Found safe in Netherlands
An underage girl who ran away from her home in America was found safe at the train station in Zwolle, Overijssel on Saturday. She was found using someone else’s passport, prompting authorities to arrest her for identity theft.
Margaret Lee, 16, was reunited with her mother over the weekend, according to Dutch police. The girl went missing on April 1, according to the Montgomery County Sheriffs office in Tennessee.
She is suspected of using her younger sister’s passport to fly from the U.S. to Iceland, and then on to the Netherlands, newspaper AD reported. It is not yet clear if Lee will be criminally charged in any country for her actions.
While in the Netherlands, she stayed at the homes of several people she had met online. The teenager now says she does not want to return to Tennessee, the Telegraaf reported.
Dutch police had focused their search for the girl around The Hague, based on research into her social media accounts.
