Packets of illegal drugs wash up on far northern, southern Dutch coasts
Packets of what is believed to be drugs were found washed up at various locations along the coast of Zeeland and around Eemshaven in Groningen on Sunday. Whether there is a connection between the packets is being investigated, ANP reports.
The police called on citizens to report any washed up packets to emergency line 112.
How many packets were found, and exactly where they washed up is unclear. The police, customs and the Koninklijke Marechaussee - a policing force that works as part of the Dutch military - did surveillance along the Zeeland coast looking for anything suspicious.
The packets found near Eemshaven were discovered by a passerby and reported to the police.
According to ANP, it often happens that packets of drugs are dumped from a ship at sea to get them ashore. These cases mostly involve heroin.
