Massive fire at Amsterdam-Noord car company; residents advised to stay out of smoke

A large fire is raging at a car company on Schaafstraat in Amsterdam-Noord on Tuesday morning. Firefighers are at the scene in large numbers to try and prevent the fire from spreading, the Telegraaf reports.

The fire started around 7:00 a.m. How it started is as yet unclear. A massive plume of smoke can be seen from almost everywhere in the city. A supplier of cleaning products is located next to the burning car company and is in danger of falling prey to the flames.

The fire department warns local residents to stay out of the smoke. It is not yet clear whether any harmful substances were released, but breathing smoke is never a good idea. Keep windows and doors closed. A measurement team is on site to test for harmful substances.
