Some 158,000 Schiphol noise complaints received from 35 people
Nearly three-quarters of the total 217 thousand noise complaints about Schiphol Airport last year were made by only 35 people. These so-called constant complainers together submitted 158 thousand complaints, according to figures from the Local Community Contact Center Schiphol, ANP reports.
A total of over 5,900 local residents filed noise complaints about Schiphol last year, an increase of 8.5 percent compared to 2015. The number of constant complainers remained the same.
Most of the complaints were about the over 25 years old Boeing 747-400 plane. The newer Boeing 747-8 and Airbus A380 were also high on the list of complaints. Complaints mostly concerned flights in the late evening, night and early morning.
The increase in complainers seem to correlate with increasing flight movements at Schiphol. Last year there were 492 thousand flight movements at the airport, 6.5 percent more than in 2015. A total of 63.6 million passengers were transported, an increase of 9.2 percent.
