Dutch FM: Judge Trump on his actions

Minister Bert Koenders of Foreign Affairs thinks that Donald Trump should be judged on his actions as president of the United States. "The American people have spoken, after a tense election campaign that also made many tensions and divisioins visible", he said to NOS in a first reaction.

Koenders is concerned about the rhetoric used in the election. According to him, Trump made statements while campaigning that are contrary to how we see our society and world order. He points to statements Trump made about NATO, about the relationship with Russa and Europe and about population groups, according to the broadcaster.

The Dutch Minister stressed the importance of cooperation with the United States and expressed his confidence that this cooperation can continue. "We urgently need each other in this world. We face global challenges such as climate change and the fight against terrorism, and also jointly have to tackle crises in the ring of instability around Europe."
