Dog fighting bust in Amersfoort sees 3 arrests; 25 pit bulls rescued
The Utrecht police believe they dismantled a dog fighting ring with three arrests in Amersfoort, Zeist and Soest. A total of 25 pit bulls were rescued, including 11 puppies.
According to the police, a 30-year-old woman from Amersfoort organized the illegal dog fights in her home. The other suspects are a 29-year-old man from Soest and a 32-year-old from Zeist.
The three were arrested on Wednesday.
The police launched an investigation based on a tip received. On Wednesday officers watched the home in Amersfoort. They saw a man enter the home in the afternoon and leave it again around 4:15 p.m.
They followed the man to a home in Zeist, where he got out carrying a wounded dog. The officers asked to see the dog, which was in a bad condition with several wounds. The man claimed the dog was bitten in the woods. He was arrested on the spot and the animal was taken to a vet.
The police then went back to the home in Amersfoort and arrested the woman and a man from Soest. They searched the homes of all three suspects and rescued 25 pit bulls, 11 of the are still puppies. Three of the dogs were injured.
All three suspects are suspected of organizing and involvement in dog fighting. The police are looking for witnesses that can provide more information.
