Strike: KLM ground crew walk out in contract dispute
Part of KLM's ground staff will be striking on Thursday to reinforce their demands for a better collective bargaining agreement, union FNV announced on Wednesday, ANP reports.
On Tuesday KLM announced that it will not give in to FNV's ultimatum. The airline stated that responding to FNV’s demands “would be irresponsible given the situation of the company”.
According to FNV, KLM did not substantively address the ground staff's demands, which is why they decided to move on to a strike. The exact details and time of the strike will be announced later on Wednesday.
FNV director Zakaria Boufangacha is sure that KLM passengers will be virtually unaffected by this strike. "Provided that KLM has their planning in order, because that's been a tough challenge this past time", the director said. The union adds that no concessions will be made on safety and security.
