Leiden man hit by police bullet during arrest
A 40-year-old man from Leiden was injured when the police fired shots while arresting him on Monday night. He was taken to a hospital for treatment, the police said in a statement.
Officers went to the man's home in an apartment building on Arendshorst in Leiden around 8:00 p.m. on Monday to arrest the man and a woman in connection with a "violent crime", according to the police statement. The police information indicated that the man has a firearm in his possession.
There was a confrontation between the man and the police, and the officers fired a number of shots. The man was injured and was taken to the hospital. The severity of his injuries were unknown.
Both man and woman were arrested, the woman without incident.
As is standard procedure in all police involved shootings, an investigation was launched by the Rijksrecherche - the department that handles internal investigations at the police.
