Helmet found in search for missing Amsterdam mountaineer

A piece of helmet was found in the search for Amsterdam mountaineer Christiaan Wilson, whose been missing in the Himalayas since May 16th. It is very likely that the found helmet belonged to him, the foundation Red Christiaan Wilson reported on Sunday, Het Parool reports. The piece of helmet was found near the Swiss base camp on the route Wilson planned to take. According to a spokesperson for the Foundation, the helmet piece was not weathered by sun or water, which indicates that it hasn't been exposed to the elements for very long and may indeed belong to the Dutchman. "The discovery says something about what may have happened and the place where the search should be continued." Wilson left on a 35 to 40 day climbing expedition on Mount Dhaulagiri in the Himalayas on April 17th. On May 15th he used his satellite phone for the last time. Several witnesses saw him heading towards the Italian base camp on May 16th. That was the last time anyone saw him.
