Four Iraqi stowaways found hiding in truck
The Koninklijke Marechaussee, a policing force that works as a branch of the Dutch military, found four Iraqi stowaways hiding in the back of a truck in IJmuiden on Wednesday. Two of them were young children. One person was arrested on suspicion of human trafficking.
The Marechaussee found the stowaways during a border check on the ferry to Newcastle, Great Britain. The 26-year-old man, 28-year-old woman and two young children were hiding between the truck's cargo.
It was initially believed that the four stowaways were a family, but the Marechaussee later discovered that he was not the children's father as he claimed. He was arrested on suspicion of human trafficking.
The Koninklijke Marechaussee is investigating.
