Footballer mourns friend killed in Den Haag area shooting
Feyenoord footballer Eljero Elia could not hold back tears after the final whistle in the Feyenoord vs Roda JC in Rotterdam on Sunday. Not only did he miss a potentially game saving goal during injury time, but he is also mourning a good friend who was shot and killed in Ypenburg, The Hague on Tuesday last week.
Elia and his friend knew each other from childhood. "We sat together in the classroom, we've been through so much together. I used to be able to look into his bedroom from my bedroom", the footballer said to Metro, adding that he can't stop thinking about the two children his friend left behind.
The Feyenoord player got the bad news from another friend. According to Elia, he was killed in a family quarrel. "He went to address his ex-girlfriend's step father. He beat his daughter. They got into a fight and probably my friend beat him up. As he walked away, he was shot in the back three times."
The funeral service will be held on Friday and Elia will be there. "All I can do is to say goodbye as best as possible and support his family. His brother and his mother always hoe that I have a good game, they are good friends."
