DNA solves five-year-old mugging
The police arrested a 29 year old man on Thursday morning for a mugging committed in 2010. The suspect was found on a DNA match.
The mugging happened on Saturday, November 13th, 2010 on Nieuwe Kijk Int Jastraat in Groningen. The victim was a 50 year old man from Groningen. A struggle arose during the mugging and the victim was stabbed in the hand with a small knife. The mugger fled and the police were unable to find him, but were able to secure the small knife used to injure the victim and analyze it for DNA.
In March 2015, the suspect had to give a DNA sample in connection with another offense. This DNA sample matched with the DNA gotten from the knife in the 2010 mugging.
The suspect is in custody for questioning.
