Limburg to ban outlaw motorcycle gang chapters

Zuid-Limburg is stepping up its battle against outlaw motorcycle gangs. Maastricht Mayor and head of the safety office Onno Hoes announced that they plan to ban the various chapters individually. According to Hoes, the chapters have to banned individually because an overall ban on all motorcycle gangs is not yet possible under current legislation, the Telegraaf reports. This new plan is intended to stop the increasing amount of disturbances caused by so called 1% Motorcycle Clubs. The 1% patch worn by some motorcycle clubs is claimed to be a reference to a comment made by the American Motorcyclist Association that 99 percent of motorcyclists are law abiding citizens, implying that the last one percent are outlaws. This 1% patch indicates that the motorcycle gang sporting it on the colors is an outlaw gang. The most recent incident involving motorcycle gangs happened in Sittard last week. A shooting incident during a confrontation between the Hell's Angels and rival gang Bandidos left three people wounded. The incident took place in a densely populated residential area.
