Night shopping drops by half
Since the advent of Sunday- and online shopping, the interest in shopping evenings has declined, especially in recent years. The number of late night shoppers has plummeted in almost all major cities.
This is evident from figures of research firm City Traffic, which measures exactly how many visitors walk through hundreds of shopping streets. In some cities the number of Thursday- or Friday night shoppers have has halved.
The Domstad in Utrecht has lost more than half its visitors since 2012. Heerlen has 58 percent fewer visitors. The decline in Amsterdam is relatively small, most likely because of all the tourists.
