Man drowns while swimming with grandson
A German man has drowned this morning while swimming off the coast of Callantsoog, North Holland. Police suspect that the man was caught in the strong currents of the North Sea while swimming with his grandson.
The child made it to shore and was transported to the hospital after being diagnosed with hypothermia. His condition has not been released.
Recusers discovered the body at 10:30 a.m. in the water. His body was recovered, and first responders made an attempt to revive him. A helicopter ambulance was deployed but the swimmer could not be saved.
The report comes three days after a man and his daughter perished in an attempt to save a drowning child at a beach in Katwijk.
The incident in Callantsoog marks the ninth drowning reported this summer.
