Fire at Veluwe
Firefighters were able to get a risky fire raging through a moorland in Hoog Soeren quickly under control on Sunday evening. The fire brigade initially signalled a major alarm and brought a great deal of equipment in to fight the blaze.
Shrubs and fields in the Veluwe area have become very dry and extremely susceptible to fire thanks in part to the biting wind of late. With a hard wind at its back a fire can sweep through the area faster than firefighters can keep the flames down.
Sunday's fire attacked an area of 20,000 m2, reported the fire department. Police and firefighters were set to research a cause Monday morning. About an hour after the alert the last flames were extinguished.
